The Local Forum for Sustainable Development in North Sinai Meets with the Head of Arish City Council
A delegation from the Local Forum for Sustainable Development in North Sinai, led by Engineer Abdullah El-Hegawi, the forum’s chairman and former Director of Environmental Protection in the governorate, visited Mohsen Salem, the Head of Arish City Council, at his office. The meeting aimed to discuss a vision for advancing the city of Arish and restoring its aesthetic appeal.
The discussion focused on reviewing the efforts made by the City Council Head since he assumed office. These efforts have exceeded what was accomplished in Arish over several previous years. The meeting also emphasized the importance of reintroducing greenery to the city’s streets and squares through reforestation and replanting key public spaces.
The forum members commended the ongoing efforts and stressed the need to review the performance of the cleaning company operating in Arish, ensuring adherence to the contractual terms. They also highlighted the importance of removing obstacles that hinder mobility within the city’s streets.
In response, Mr. Salem affirmed President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s commitment to supporting North Sinai and Governor Major General Dr. Khaled Magawer’s dedication to addressing the needs of the governorate’s residents, ensuring their comfort, and attending to their legitimate demands.
Mr. Salem also referred to a proposal by the forum to establish a permanent exhibition for productive families in the governorate, noting the governor’s keen interest in this initiative. He announced that the exhibition is expected to be launched soon on the “Quarantine Grounds” at an estimated initial cost of approximately EGP 12 million. Additionally, a new location has been identified to relocate the current exhibition, which has caused the closure of a main road in the city center.
Mr. Salem highlighted the governor’s efforts to maintain the cleanliness and beautification of Arish and urged citizens, civil society, and NGOs to assist the cleaning company by collecting waste at designated times in the early morning to facilitate its removal.
This collaborative approach reflects the collective commitment to enhancing the city’s urban environment and public services.
