Initiative: Local Forums for Sustainable Development
General Objective
To facilitate a local dialogue at the governorate level that brings together stakeholders from relevant entities with the aim of raising awareness and building capacity to integrate sustainability into local development strategies and plans.
Specific Objectives
- Establish a continuous communication and consultation platform dedicated to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the governorate level.
- Maximize the use of technical and scientific expertise available within these governorates.
- Foster a local dialogue that promotes the flow of information and knowledge regarding developmental challenges and opportunities, striving to build frameworks for cooperation and partnership among stakeholders.
- Encourage local forums to issue periodic shadow reports on the achievements and challenges of sustainable development within the governorate.
- Increase the participation of civil society within the governorate in the implementation of local sustainable development strategies, programs, and plans.
- Provide opportunities for stakeholders (government entities, local authorities, academic and research institutions, media, parliamentarians, civil society organizations, youth, women, and others) to participate in realizing the concept of sustainability.

Activities of the Local Forum for Sustainable Development in Suez Governorate (1)
As part of the initiative “Reducing Single-Use Plastic – SUP,” the Local Forum for Sustainable Development in Suez Governorate organized an awareness seminar at the Japanese School. The seminar was attended by 50 students and focused on introducing the initiative, highlighting the negative impacts of SUP, and discussing available alternatives to its usage.

The Local Forum for Sustainable Development in Suez Governorate, in collaboration with the Marine Scouts Club, as well as the Environmental Affairs Agency – Media Department, organized an Earth Hour 2024 celebration. The event included an awareness seminar as part of the “No to Single-Use Plastic -SUP” initiative. The seminar introduced the initiative, highlighted the negative impacts of SUP and discussed available alternatives to its use.

In celebration of World Water Day, the Local Forum for Sustainable Development in Sohag Governorate organized a workshop for students of one of the governorate’s schools. The workshop included an introductory speech on the occasion, addressing the importance of water resources, the significant challenges we face in this field, and the role of individuals in helping to eliminate these challenges.

Activities of the Local Forum for Sustainable Development in North Sinai Governorate
Major General Dr. Khaled Magawer, Governor of North Sinai, hosted members of the Local Sustainable Development Forum in the governorate for an important community dialogue aimed at shaping a sustainable development vision. This dialogue is part of the activities under the “Local Sustainable Development Forums” initiative, launched by the Egyptian Forum for Sustainable Development with the support of the Ministries of Environment and Social Solidarity.
The Local Sustainable Development Forum in North Sinai has initiated coordination efforts with local leaders to prepare for a major community dialogue. This dialogue will bring together representatives from all relevant entities in the governorate, alongside stakeholders and experts from the Egyptian Sustainable Development Forum. The aim is to discuss the available opportunities in the governorate and how to invest in them sustainably, contributing to the development of a vision that encourages sustainable action with the participation of all concerned parties.
In a significant step, Major General Dr. Maghawar met with members of the Local Sustainable Development Forum of North Sinai on Thursday, August 29, 2024. The meeting involved discussions on the draft agenda and the important issues to be highlighted. This dialogue is scheduled to take place in November under the Governor’s patronage.
