The “Education for Sustainable Development” Initiative

The “Education for Sustainable Development” initiative was launched as part of the Egyptian-Cypriot cooperation, with the Egyptian Forum for Sustainable Development and the Arab Office for Youth and Environment Association signing a cooperation protocol with the Cypriot Ministry of Education and Culture.

  • This collaboration aims to establish the principles of education for sustainable development within Egyptian educational institutions, with the goal of transforming these institutions into models of green schools.
  • With full support and coordination between the Ministry of Education & Technical Education, and the Ministry of Environment, the initiative was officially launched during an opening conference hosted by the Ministry of Environment at the Cairo House Environmental and Cultural Center. The event was attended by representatives from the Cypriot Ministry of Education and Culture, along with leaders from the Ministries of Education and Environment.

Objectives of the “Education for Sustainable Development” Initiative:

  • Build public awareness of the concept and goals of sustainable development through various capacity-building processes.
  • Launch practical models for implementing mechanisms to achieve sustainable development within schools.
  • Restore the community role of target schools by enabling them to implement and participate in sustainable development initiatives.
  • Link target schools with national initiatives and motivate them to achieve the desired community-level outcomes.
  • Strengthen cooperation to foster a thorough understanding of Egypt’s Sustainable Development Strategy: Egypt Vision 2030.
