The Local Forum for Sustainable Development in Suez Discusses Migratory Bird Routes in the Red Sea

The Local Forum for Sustainable Development in Suez, in collaboration with the Suez Tourism Promotion Authority, held a seminar on migratory birds in Suez as part of the World Tourism Day celebrations at the Suez National Museum. Dr. Intesar Al-Higazi, coordinator of the Local Forum for Sustainable Development in Suez, highlighted that the Red Sea migration route is the second-largest migratory bird route in the world, with Jebel Al-Galala serving as a critical observation point. Over 500,000 birds pass through this region.

She added that the primary aim of the seminar, coinciding with World Tourism Day, is to promote tourism related to migratory birds. If this area receives more attention from authorities, it could become a significant source of national income. Additionally, given the environmental focus on renewable energy in the Gulf of Suez, the region commits to generate clean energy such as wind power, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions which has helped create a favorable environment for migratory birds, many of which settle in the Galala area.
