Local Forum Organizes Field Visit to Solar Energy Sites in North Sinai

As part of its ongoing efforts to advance sustainable development pathways and support the transition towards a green economy, the North Sinai Local Sustainable Development Forum intensified its calls for increased investment in solar energy projects and for directly linking these projects to improved efficiency in the use of water resources from various sources. This approach would contribute to developing more sustainable production systems capable of addressing environmental and economic challenges.

The Forum emphasized that expanding solar energy applications represents a key pillar of local development in the governorate, particularly in productive sectors that depend heavily on water and energy, most notably agriculture and aquaculture. It also highlighted the potential of solar energy to create new employment opportunities for young people and support small and medium-sized enterprises based on clean-energy applications.

In this context, the North Sinai Local Sustainable Development Forum organized a field visit on 6 June 2026 to several sites where solar energy systems are used to operate agricultural projects and fish farms. The visit aimed to examine successful experiences on the ground and assess the impact of these technologies on improving production efficiency, reducing operating costs, and strengthening the sustainable management of natural resources.

The visit provided an opportunity for project owners, farmers, and investors to exchange knowledge and experience. Several practical models were presented that had successfully employed solar energy to operate irrigation systems and various production facilities, thereby reducing dependence on conventional energy sources and improving the efficiency of both water and energy use.

The activities also included direct meetings with the owners and beneficiaries of pioneering solar energy projects. These meetings were documented to highlight success stories associated with the use of clean energy in different productive activities, helping to disseminate knowledge and encourage more farmers and investors to adopt these sustainable solutions.

The field visit sought to highlight the growing role of solar energy as a key instrument for achieving sustainable development in North Sinai Governorate and to demonstrate its potential to support the agricultural, aquaculture, and other productive sectors. This would help expand the use of renewable energy sources and strengthen their contribution to economic, social, and environmental development at both the local and national levels.

Participants affirmed that the success of these experiences reflects North Sinai Governorate’s promising renewable energy potential. They also underscored the importance of continuing efforts to encourage investment in solar energy projects in support of sustainable development plans and to enhance the capacity of local communities to adapt to the challenges posed by climate change and resource scarcity.
